Friends around the Campfire

Join us round the campfire

John once said that, after he was gone, he would like his friends to have a big party and tell stories about him, and he hoped some of the stories would be good ones!

This is a place for all Friends of John Denver to gather around the campfire and share your stories and memories of John, so post here and join the party!

Campfire Sylvia said: I've just been looking at the slide show tribute for Erma. It's remarkable how like John she looks in her younger photos.
I will always feel privileged to have met her. I spoke to her at the library in Aspen in 2002 and she started telling me all about the display at the museum and how to get there. Her sister whispered that they hadn't got much time and she said 'I always have time for John's fans.' and carried on talking. Then I went to shake her hand and she threw her arms around me and said 'Hugs are free, you know.' what a lovely person!

If you are need overnight accommodation in Denver,
I can recommend the STAYBRIDGE SUITES at Denver Airport;
http://www.staybridge.com
They provide a free shuttle from the airport, the rooms are excellent value and the breakfast is fantastic!

Campfire tony and irene said: We also would like to add our condolences at the sad passing of Erma, we like so many had met and spoke to her in Aspen, she was such a warm person, and the thoughts of seeing her dancing with Chris Collins at Windstar was a joy to watch, she lived life and gave us the life of John which is something wonderfull - some people make a difference and she will always be rememberd for the gift she gave to the world - John.
Bet somewhere there is a reunion going on with a son and his mother.
God Bless you both.
Peace and love

Campfire Sandy Whale said: What sad news to hear of Erma's death. We met her just the once in Aspen 2000. Her courage and warmth were so obvious. She was a dignified, lovely lady, no wonder John was so proud of her.

Our piece of news, we are out of Scotland and now live in Wales, nearer our family. Getting used to the change - slowly. Still we are nearer for Denver Days. We have missed seeing you.

Campfire Paul & Val said: Sad news to hear of John Denver's mother, Erma passing away on Sunday. I have met her twice in Aspen in 2002 & 2004. What a great lady she was, no wonder John was so proud of her.
She was a wonderful person to talk to. I remember meeting her for the first time at Snowmass & sitting with her at Windstar. It was great to hold Erma's hand, give her a good hug & share in the memory of John. She will be missed next year at the Aspen John Denver Celebrations.

Campfire Julia said: What a very sad loss. Erma was a truly lovely lady. She never feared showing her emotions and at the same time being so strong in going to Aspen each year to support all the activities and the people there. She was always happy to say hello and talk to you about John.
She will be very sadly missed

Campfire Ruth and Keith Oddie said: God bless Erma an elegant, gentle, proud lady who we were honoured to meet each time we were in Aspen. Our thoughts are with her lovely sister and Ron her other son. We feel as though we knew her so well and will miss her smiles in Aspen at the events celebrating her son John's life and music. Reunited together at Peace.
